Jenks Boomfest Canceled After Fireworks Operators Injured in Tuskahoma Fire

Jenks' highly anticipated annual Boomfest fireworks show, scheduled for July 4th, has been canceled. The decision comes after several fireworks operators, contracted by Hance Pyrotechnics, sustained injuries in a fire that occurred during the setup for the Tuskahoma "Boom in the Valley" event. The Tuskahoma incident resulted in at least five injuries and the cancellation of that show as well. The City of Jenks expressed disappointment but understanding towards Hance Pyrotechnics, extending well wishes to those affected.

Boomfest Cancellation Details

  • The annual Jenks Boomfest fireworks display has been officially canceled for July 4th.

  • The cancellation is a direct result of injuries sustained by fireworks operators from Hance Pyrotechnics at a separate event in Tuskahoma.

  • The City of Jenks was notified of the cancellation by the contracted fireworks company on Thursday morning.

  • While the July 4th show is canceled, there is a possibility it could be rescheduled for a later date, but not for the immediate holiday weekend.

Impact on Local Celebrations

Despite the cancellation of the main fireworks display, the City of Jenks and local businesses are assuring residents that July 4th celebrations will continue in various parts of the city. The Jenks Riverwalk and the Oklahoma Aquarium, which had planned special events tied to the fireworks, are adapting their festivities. Businesses along the Riverwalk, including Suite Shots, District Burger, Los Cabos, and Andolini’s, will maintain their planned celebrations with live music, food specials, and entertainment. The Oklahoma Aquarium will remain open during its standard hours, though its specific Boomfest party has been canceled.

Tuskahoma Fire Incident

The incident that led to the cancellation occurred during the setup for the Tuskahoma "Boom in the Valley" fireworks show. A fire broke out at the Tuskahoma Capitol Grounds around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to at least five individuals involved in the preparations. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the Tuskahoma fire. The "Boom in the Valley" event itself has also been canceled due to the incident.

Alternative Fireworks Displays

For those still seeking fireworks displays, the Tulsa Folds of Honor FreedomFest is confirmed to be proceeding as planned. The River Parks Authority has confirmed their fireworks vendor is ready for the July 4th show.
